Diesel Start-up Pack
February 2007 - Independent garages that turn away diesel vehicles today will lose potential revenue, risk losing general vehicle servicing work, and will risk cutting themselves out of the growing diesel opportunity.

Delphi has recognised this change in market conditions and has now designed a ‘Diesel Start-Up Pack’ aimed specifically at those garages that are making their first move into diesel.

Over the course of the last six years, there has been an incredible increase in the sales of diesel cars in the UK.  In the year 2000, the figure for new diesel car sales stood at 313,000; in 2006 this figure has trebled to 950,000 despite the general trend of decline in the new car sales market.

To put these figures into perspective, it is estimated that by 2008, 45% of new car sales in the UK will be diesel.

The introduction of Common Rail diesel systems is largely responsible for the rising popularity of diesel cars. Common Rail vehicles have changed the image of diesel cars by delivering better fuel economy, a big reduction in noise and an ability to meet the ever-tightening emissions legislation. Common Rail has also brought with it new requirements for diagnostics and vehicle servicing.

As an OE Common Rail manufacturer, Delphi has met these challenges head-on by providing a dedicated range of diagnostics and test equipment.

The growth in the UK diesel car market has changed the way that garages view diesel vehicles. Traditionally, due to a low UK diesel car parc, non-specialist garages have not seen investment in diesel diagnostics as a priority. With this recent upsurge in new diesel car registrations tied into the rapid advance in electronic control technology fitted to diesel cars, the business opportunity and need for general “All-makes” diesel diagnostic equipment has never been greater.
