DM0791 C3i COMMON RAIL INJECTOR REPAIR LAUNCH CR pump repair

1.Common Rail Injector

Delphi launched its Common Rail injector repair programme in January 2007. The solution was based on the AVM2PC test bench and included repair parts, test plans and tooling. In September 2007 Delphi approved an additional Hartridge test stand, the CRi-PC, for authorised Common Rail injector repair

The initial repair programme covered the complete range of Delphi Common Rail injectors with C2i coding. The C2i injectors were fitted as OE on the first Delphi CR system in 2001 and are still being OE-fitted on a limited range of applications today. In the latter stages of 2006, Delphi launched a new Common Rail technology with even higher performance levels, the C3i injector.

Delphi is committed to giving its network repair capability for every new fuel injection technology and we are now pleased to announce the launch of the C3i CR injector repair programme.

2.C3i Common Rail Injectors

The C3i injector characterisation code helps the engine run with optimum efficiency and enables the ECU to be calibrated with the fuel injection system. The precise characteristics of each injector are read and programmed into the ECU to provide superb ‘first-time’ accuracy of injector performance.

The C3i code contains 20 digits as compared to the 16-digit code of its predecessor, C2i. The extra four digits within the C3i code signify an increased number of measurements that are communicated to the ECU to further increase the accuracy of fuel injection.

3.Application coverage

The C3i injector was first fitted to the PSA DW10B engine in the summer of 2006 with numerous additional applications following suit during the last two years. There are now more than 2.5 million C3i injectors on the road today.

A full list of the injectors covered by the C3i repair programme is shown overleaf:

4. Test Equipment requirements

Delphi C3i injector test capability will initially be launched exclusively on the CRi-PC test bench platform. The following table details all of the equipment required to upgrade from C2i to C3i repair:

Further details of the test equipment can be found on the Hartridge Marketing note, HMN77.

C3i injector repair on the AVM2 test bench. Delphi is committed to extending its C3i injector repair programme to the AVM2 test bench platform. However, due to the requirements of C3i test and generation, further development is required before this programme can be launched. Further details of the timing of the C3i test programme launch on AVM2 will be communicated in early 2010.

5.Iris Test plan software

The test plans for C3i injectors will be distributed on the forthcoming version of IRIS - part number DDRX121. With the launch of this latest CD, IRIS will move to an annual subscription license period which will operate in exactly the same way as the current DIAMAND software process. Further details on the licensing of IRIS and the contents within the new CD can be found on MI note DM0792.

6.Repair parts Programme

The C3i repair parts programme will cover all of the injectors detailed in section 3 of this note and will include all of the key components of the injector. The part number detail of the parts can be found in the Pricing section of this note.

7.Technical Information

Technical information for the C3i injector range will be available on Direct Evolution – this will include all the relevant parts lists and EVD’s along with the accompanying SI notes and Warranty notes.

8.Repair parts

Many of the repair parts used in the C3i range are common to C2i injectors and therefore are already available. The detail of the range of parts that are being introduced specifically for the C3i repair programme are detailed below:

9.To Order
